Date: 2016-12-12 11:09 pm (UTC)that is painfully ic
Date: 2016-12-12 11:53 pm (UTC)I didn't say I was sitting on my arse, thank you. Have you got a plan to offer?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 03:30 pm (UTC)[She remembers at last to grab the bag of weed and get to work on packing another bowl.]
But if you don't have a plan, then you kinda are just sitting on your ass. Sorry. [Although--] Where'd you learn about cars?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 03:34 pm (UTC)School. But I don't do the job because I know about cars. Anyway, again, what's your plan?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 05:06 pm (UTC)[Easy breezy.]
Why do you do the job if it's not about cars?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 05:14 pm (UTC)A friend got ported out and left me his garage. So I made it useful. We fix up cars and sell 'em and use the proceeds to fund public transit. The associations with imPorts make it so people will pay a premium for our cars. It's been pretty successful. And I like doing something to make people's lives a bit less shitty here. Compensates for a bit of the bloody murder and torture we do.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 06:08 pm (UTC)[In a you-go-girl! type of tone, as she works on packing.]
Okay, but why are you so obsessed with public transportation?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 07:07 pm (UTC)What an American question to ask. 'Cause the system you've got in this country is shite, isn't it. And in normal parts of the world, that's how people get about. I'm doing my part to make Florida a bit less mental.

Date: 2016-12-13 08:12 pm (UTC)[Well, lived is actually more accurate. Deeeepressing. Darlene lights up first this time, to take some of the sting from thinking about how shitty and weird this version of New York is and how shitty is to be trapped here. When she exhales, it's with a great big sigh.]
Not what I meant anyways, Miss European Superiority. I mean why do you give a shit about trains of all things. Why are trains your big ole equalizer.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 08:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, New York does all right. It's no London.
[ She might have very mixed feelings about her home, but dammit, she will defend it to the death to outsiders. No one's allowed to be mean to her city except her. Or say that there's any city in the world that compares, for that matter. ]
Anyway. It's not my great-big equalizer. That'd be silly. It's just one way to pay these people back, and it seemed...appropriate. Selling transportation to fund transportation. Made sense. The other option was giving cars away, but this reaches more people instead of just the ones who get lucky. [ She wrinkles her nose - ] I'm doing a lot of other things, too, you know.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-13 10:59 pm (UTC)[But New York is better lbr. Darlene holds the piece out to Kitty anyways, with the lighter sandwiched artfully up against the side.]
What other things?

Date: 2016-12-14 02:55 am (UTC)Internet activism, for one. Don't laugh. Celebrities badgering people to give micro-donations is pretty bloody effective. I use the nightclub I'm part owner of too - give it to groups for fundraising events. Host a few of my own. Do the occasional fundraising thing on the network, too - raise a few dollars and guilt the bloody sods into giving a shit or two about things beyond their nose. And make it clear who are the shits who still can't be bothered.
[ The drugs are making her a bit blunted. And saltier. ]
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 03:53 pm (UTC)Um, hold the fuck up, what nightclub do you part own? Are you kidding me?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 03:56 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 04:44 pm (UTC)[And also pass back the bong. Here is Darlene's expectant hand.]
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 04:57 pm (UTC)Same situation. Friend got ported out and left me her holdings.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 05:21 pm (UTC)You know, if I didn't know any better, I would say you've gotta be bumping off these so-called "friends"-- [air quotes implied in her tone; Darlene doesn't do air quotes] --just to get your hands on their shit.
[She takes a hit as punctuation, smirks when she exhales.]
Props though, this is some serious black widow game you are playing.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 05:29 pm (UTC)That's not funny.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 07:50 pm (UTC)[She holds out the bong again.]
Hurry up and take a hit so you can unclench, Jesus.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 08:10 pm (UTC)[ But she does take back the weed, and takes another hit. And she is a little calmer when she responds: ]
Anyway. It's all terribly bourgeois. Never thought I'd own a business. Let alone three. My mum would be so pleased - till she realized I wasn't taking any profit from it at all.
[ A satisfying thought, actually. Kitty brightens further still. ]
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 09:50 pm (UTC)[She leans on the words with great exaggeration, sarcasm, but it's for once not at Kitty's expense. Thank God for small favors.]
Honestly, owning a club is at the dirty end of the spectrum. I guess it depends on the kind of club, but I'm betting Krakatoa isn't like S&M or anything, and you did say 'nightclub'.
Okay, but if you're soooo anti, why don't you sell your share. Donate the money. Throw it off a bridge. Whatever.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-14 10:12 pm (UTC)[ She tilts her head from one side to the other, for once not getting caught up in fighting Darlene on the small things. ]
It's just weird, is all. It's not ever what I thought I'd be doing.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-15 06:15 pm (UTC)[She holds out her hand for the piece again, with wiggly gimme-gimme fingers.]
--is questionable at best. If not outright douchey and suspicious. Are you seriously not going to give me the name of your dealer?
no subject
Date: 2016-12-15 06:22 pm (UTC)I don't think it makes them a piece of shit. I think it just makes them - complacent. Since typically, your aspirations when you're a kid are conditioned and created by societal expectations. [ A shrug - ] I mean, there was a time when I dreamed about being a mum myself. Horrible thought now. Could you imagine ever having kids? Eurgh.
[ And, as for that second question - ]
Anyway, I still don't know you quite well enough to trust you, do I.
no subject
Date: 2016-12-15 07:16 pm (UTC)[She takes a quick hit, and a short exhale, before she speaks to the rest of it.]
And I would seriously rather jam a knife up my vag than spawn any children. Trust me, that is a mercy to everyone, including the unborn spawn. My code for parenting is all kindsa jacked up.
[Another hit, this one slightly deeper. She savors it, sinks back against the couch with the pipe in her hand.]
Anyways. What online survey do I fill out to win your trust?
