[Um. Darlene lifts her eyebrows, pointedly, as she sucks at the end of her cigarette. She waits till Kitty concludes with that before she exhales.

[ A noise of frustration, and she drums a heel against the bench behind her - an incongruously girlish gesture from a woman of her appearance. ]

I've told you that my world's got magic, right? That we're ruled by magicians? Magicians are people who keep spirits enslaved. So those spirits decided to rise up and try to overthrow humanity - by which I mean they ended up trying to eat all of humanity. I was there when they started their revolution, and I watched how they killed people, and I decided that this needed to be stopped before they murdered everyone in London. So I needed allies. Other spirits less bent on murder. So I did a ritual that brought me into the world of spirits, to ask for help. Which - when a physical being crosses into the world of spirits, it destroys them physically. I lost a lot of my life essence as a result of crossing over.

[ I probably won't have a lot longer to live - She swallows that down. Because, one, it's a little too sad, and two, it'll probably just make Darla advocate for immediate total revolution while she still has time left. ]

Anyway. We stopped them, they managed to murder the entirety of the government of the British Empire before they were stopped, new government in place. Does that make a bit more sense?

But - no. It's a power the Porter gave me here. Back home, I'm just...like this. Though not entirely human there, either, I think.

And you have just been waiting to tell all this to someone who actually wants to listen to it. Or at least someone who puts in enough effort to get it out of you. People spend tons of time making neurotic confessions to a therapist for similar reasons, but if you tell your friends-- [""""friends""""; they are not friends] --you're not swallowing the pill of bitter lonely shit that is paying someone to give a crap about you. Bonus if it's on facebook so you can show your pathetic ass on blast.
